Scandals are always "a hit"

Philippines' Ex-President Cory Aquino dies at 76

I woke up early this morning only to hear the sad news that former Philippine President Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino died at around 3 am today, August 1, 2009, as relayed to the media by her son, Senator Benigno "NoyNoy" Aquino III.

    Cory was 76 (January 25, 1933 – August 01, 2009).

She died of a cardio-respiratory arrest caused by her colon cancer, which she battled for more than one year.

Aside from Noynoy, Cory has four more children: Maria Elena Aquino-Cruz, Aurora Corazon Aquino-Abellada, Victoria Eliza Aquino-Dee, and Kristina Bernadette "Kris" Aquino, a popular and influential showbiz personality in the country who is married to basketeer James Yap.

    ***

Cory was a very important political figure in the Philippines, other than just being an ex-President and the first ever female President in the Philippines and in Asia.

She served as an instrument for the country in obtaining the democracy that the people are enjoying now.

She led the 1986 People Power Revolution which ended Ferdinand E. Marcos' reign as a dictator President.

Just like her husband Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. who was assassinated during Marcos Regime on August 21, 1983, Cory Aquino was also a "hero" for the Filipino people and responsible for shaping not only Philippines history but of the world as well.

They both died in the month of August, the same month when the Philippines celebrates its National Heroes Day.

    ***

Cory's death almost falls on the same date of the death of a popular coach in England named Sir Bobby Robson, who also died of cancer on July 31 at the same age of 76.

"Fire" is actually just one of the three non-English and non-Tagalog songs in the countdown.

The song "Nobody" by a Korean girl group Wonder Girls is at #4 and another Korean song entitled "Sorry Sorry" from the male group Super Junior is currently at #12.

Anne Curtis injured in a car accident

Pretty actress Anne Curtis was admitted to St. Luke's Medical Center after she sustained minor injuries from a car accident early morning today.

Anne was driving a Porsche Cayenne luxury car when she accidentally hit an L-300 delivery van at the corner of Congressional and Mindanao Avenues in Quezon City, says report from ABS-CBN.

The van driver identified as Aquino Marcelino was claiming that Anne might have fallen asleep while driving her car.

Anne sustained only minor injuries and in a very stable condition.

It's unknown where Anne was going to or where she was coming from during the accident, but she has a scheduled taping today which unfortunately has been packed up due to that accident.

Friends and former leading men of Anne such as Jericho Rosales, Christian Bautista and Sam Milby reportedly have rushed to the scene of the accident and accompanied Anne to the hospital.

    ***

It seems like Anne could not get away from (minor) mishaps lately.

Two weeks ago, Anne's house was robbed by a stranger and took some of her belongings.

    ***

How true that Anne Curtis is playing the role of Sandy in the Filipino version of the hit Koreanovela "Save the Last Dance For Me"?

"Boy" showing in Cinemalaya tomorrow

Auraeus Solito's latest film entitled "Boy" will be screened in the Cinemalaya Cinco tomorrow, July 24, 6:15 PM at Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater) as one of the contenders in the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Jury competition.

"Boy" has already been screened at the Torino GLBT Film Festival 2009 last April, at the 2009 Seattle International Film Festival held last month and in the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival just this month.

It's about a young poet who sold his collection of comic books and action figures so he could hire a male stripper / macho dancer on a New Years Eve.

It was also supposed to premiere at the 22nd Singapore International Film Festival but was banned by the censors in Singapore for this reason: "normalising" homosexuality and a "prolonged and explicit" homosexual scene which was filmed in a "romanticised manner."

Boy is played by Aeious Asin.

It also stars Noni Buencamino, Madeleine Nicolas, Aries Peña and Danton Remoto.

Auraeus Solito is the acclaimed director of "Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros", "Tuli" and "Pisay".

"And I Love You So" Music video by Sam Milby (with lyrics below)

    Lyrics:

    And I love you so.
    The people ask me how,
    How Ive lived till now.
I tell them I dont know.

    I guess they understand
    How lonely life has been.
    But life began again
The day you took my hand.

And, yes, I know how lonely life can be.
The shadows follow me, and the night wont set me free.
But I dont let the evening get me down
    Now that youre around me.

    And you love me, too.
    Your thoughts are just for me;
    You set my spirit free.
    Im happy that you do.

The book of life is brief
And once a page is read,
    All but love is dead.
    That is my belief.

And, yes, I know how loveless life can be.
The shadows follow me, and the night wont set me free.
But I dont let the evening bring me down
    Now that youre around me.

    And I love you so.
    The people ask me how,
    How Ive lived till now.
I tell them, "i dont know."

Derek just starred with Ms. Maricel Soriano in the boxoffice movie "T2" shown last April, and now he has 2 new movies coming soon.

First off is "And I Love You So" which pairs him up for the second time with Bea Alonzo.

And later this year, Derek also has another movie with Gabby Concepcion and real life girlfriend Angelica Panganiban.

Wow, Derek is so lucky! Maybe, overly blessed is the right term for that.

Anong meron si Derek na wala ang ibang artista para mabiyayaan siya nang ganito kasobra?

    I dunno.

Maybe Derek is professional, versatile and "walang kakyime-kyime".

I remember Derek said during one interview that he is willing to do butt exposure in a movie as well as a gay kissing scene.

It has to happen yet, but his willingness to essay different types of roles and be versatile probably explains why he's showered with lots of projects.

Pero watching him on "The Wedding" makes me wonder why he was given that role. It's not that he couldn't do it well, but it seems like other actors could better fit that role. Why didn't they give the role to Rafael Rosell?

Derek has been labeled as the new "universal leading man" simply because he has been paired with different leading ladies: Maricel Soriano, Judy Ann Santos, Angelica Panganiban, Kristine Hermosa, Anne Curtis, Bea Alonzo and soon with Toni Gonzaga.

    Why oh why?

Here's Derek and Bea for the movie "And I Love You So":

Bea Alonzo and Sam Milby pair up for the third time in the Star Cinema film "And I Love You So".

Bea and Sam were first paired in the 2006 post-Valentine movie "Close To You", which was also Sam's first movie.

And now, they team up anew in the upcoming Star Cinema film "And I Love You So" which opens August 12, 2009.

Omer Bhatti, secret son of Michael Jackson?

This guy named Omer or O-Bee is believed to be a love child of Michael Jackson to a Norwegian woman named Pia Bhatti.

Take a look at some of Omer Bhatti's pictures and judge for yourself...

Omer Bhatti is now 25 years old and if it's true, he must be Michael's first child.

It all started when Omer Bhatti stole the scene during the memorial service for Michael Jackson.

Bhatti was given a front row seat and seated beside Michael's sister Rebbie.

According to reports, Omer is Michael's child from a one night stand with Pia wayback in 1984.

Omer, who is also a singer/performer in Norway, used to imitate and impersonate Michael Jackson in some of his performances.

I think it's a good idea for Omer thru his own music to continue Michael Jackson's legacy, whether or not he is the son of the King of Pop.

Sarah Geronimo "Something New In My Life"

Even if Sarah Geronimo is not paired with John Lloyd Cruz in the latter's upcoming movie, the Pop Star Princess will still be part of it and is going to be a special treat to their fans.

As what has been revealed at stir.ph, Sarah will sing the theme song of Star Cinema's upcoming film "In My Life" which stars Vilma Santos, Luis Manzano and of course John Lloyd Cruz.

The theme song is not the Beatle's song "In My Life" as previously reported, but it's a Stephen Bishop song entitled "Something New In My Life".

    Beautiful song...

Here's the lyrics of "Something New In My Life" by Stephen Bishop now being revived by Sarah Geronimo for the movie "In My Life":

i guess i wanted something new in my life
a new key to fit a new door
to wake and see a different view in my life
the one i've been waiting for

dreams like everyone i've had a few in my life
who knew that this one would come true in my lfe
i knew the moment when you touched me
    you touched me

you're like a sudden breeze that blew in my life
a new face, a new smile, new song
and now i know i wanted you in my life all along

i guess, i must have saved an empty place in my heart
for you to come and fill this space in my heart
that long before i said i loved you
    i love you

whatever happens this is true in my life
when all the springs have come and gone
whatever dance i made or do in my life
whatever else that i may do in my life
you'll always be something new in my life
    from now on

i know there always will be you in my life
    from now on...

    yeah... yeah.....yeah....

    ***

Back in 2005, an avid fan of Sarah was requesting on one forum if Sarah could revive "Something New In My Life". And now, after four years, his wish has finally been granted.

    ***

Martin Nievera and Karylle already had their own versions of "Something New In My Life" included as a track in one of their albums.
