"Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak!" Box-Office Gross: P21.89 million in 2 days

Star Cinema and M-Zet co-prod "Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak!" has been showing strong in theaters since its opening day last Black Saturday, April 23.

Box Office Mojo tabulation for the period April 20-24 shows that Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak! earned P21.89 million on its first 2 days.

That's quite a huge figure for a 2-day gross, and it's already an indication of a box-office success for the movie.

Probably by now, May 6, the movie, which stars Vic Sotto and Bea Alonzo, is already closer to a hundred million.

Meanwhile, "Catch Me I'm In Love" starring Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson has already wrapped up with a total accumulated gross of P120.21 million after 5 weeks while the Robin Padilla-Mariel Rodriguez movie "Tum: My Pledge of Love" is still struggling in the box-office with only P5.16 million in 3 weeks.

Bea Alonzo 'Eat Bulaga' guesting (video)

Bea Alonzo guested for the first time on GMA 7's 'Eat Bulaga' last Monday, April 18, 2011.

The Kapamilya actress was there to promote her upcoming film "Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak!" with Bossing Vic Sotto, who's a main host of the show.

Also guesting there for the first time to promote for the movie are Kapamilya child stars Zaijian Jaranilla and Xyriel Manabat, as well as homegrown ABS-CBN talent Thou Reyes.

They played in the show's "Pinoy Henyo".

Vic's co-hosts in Eat Bulaga, Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola, are also part of "Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak!".

Here's a video of their guesting, just in case you missed it last Monday:

"Eat Bulaga" is produced by TAPE, Inc. and it's only being shown in the Kapuso Network, that's why Kapamilya stars are welcome to do guesting there.

That particular guesting of Bea and co. was also not a "live" one. It was taped last April 13 and was only shown last Apr. 18.

Vic, Wally and Jose in turn have also guested several times on ABS-CBN shows, such as ASAP Rocks, The Buzz and a live interview with Korina Sanchez on TV Patrol.

"Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak" will open in theaters this Saturday, April 23.

Done in the City of Manila, this 18th day of April, in the year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Eleven.

    (Sgd.) BENIGNO S. AQUINO III

    By the President:

    (Sgd.) PAQUITO N. OCHOA JR.
    Executive Secretary

April 23, Black Saturday, also happens to be the opening day of Star Cinema / M-Zet film "Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak!" starring 5-time Box-Office King Vic Sotto and 2007 Box-Office Queen Bea Alonzo.

And since it's a holiday, more people will be able to watch the movie, which is expected to do well in the box-office.

But of course, aside from going to the malls, watching a movie, enjoying a grand vacation or going to the beaches, first and foremost, it's important that we pray and repent first on this holiest time of the year.

John Lloyd Cruz dethroned as Box Office King

John Lloyd Cruz's 3-year streak as Box Office King has ended.

John Lloyd held the title beginning in 2007 for the movie "One More Chance", then the next year for "A Very Special Love" and again in 2009 for "You Changed My Life".

And for 2010, he almost retained the title with two box-office hits under Star Cinema: "Miss You Like Crazy" with Bea Alonzo and "My Amnesia Girl" with Toni Gonzaga.

But neither of the two films surpassed the earnings of the MMFF 2010 entries "Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote", which starred Sen. Bong Revilla Jr and Vic Sotto, under GMA-Regal Films and "Ang Tanging Ina Mo Last Na 'To", starred Ai-Ai delas Alas, produced by Star Cinema.

Guillermo Mendoza Scholarship Foundation has officially announced that the Box Office King title for 2010 will be awarded to Sen. Bong and Vic, while the Box Office Queen is Ai-Ai delas Alas.

It goes to show that they already changed the ruling now. Instead of the December 31 cut-off, they used January 7 as the cut-off in determining who will be crowned with the titles.

    (I smell politics here.)

    December 31 Cut-Off:
    1. My Amnesia Girl P144.8M
    2. Miss You Like Crazy P143M
    3. Si Agimat At Si Enteng Kabisote P123M (estimated amount only)
    4. Here Comes the Bride P116M
    5. Petrang Kabayo P115.5M
    6. Ang Tanging Ina Mo Last Na 'To P109M (estimated amount only)

    January 7 Cut-Off:
    1. Si Agimat At Si Enteng Kabisote P159M
    2. Ang Tanging Ina Mo Last Na 'To P157M
    3. My Amnesia Girl P144.8M
    4. Miss You Like Crazy P143M
    5. Here Comes the Bride P116M
    6. Petrang Kabayo P115.4M P115.5M

This news saddens the fans of both John Lloyd and Toni 'coz the movie "My Amnesia Girl" was shown for a month only, from November 24 to December 24, and had to give way to the MMFF 2010 entries which opened on December 25.

"My Amnesia Girl" could have earned more than its final gross if it was extended for 1-2 weeks, just like John Lloyd's previous films which made him a Box Office King.

So maybe next time, if MMFF is coming in a month, don't release a new movie.

With the new ruling, it's most likely that the Box Office King and Queen titles for 2011 and the coming years will go to the stars whose movies were shown for the MMFF.

Shall we expect Ai-Ai, Bong and Vic getting the titles year after year?

Mico Palanca, ex-bf of Bea Alonzo, arrested after a traffic altercation

Mico Palanca, former boyfriend of Bea Alonzo, spent a night in jail after a traffic altercation along Ortigas Avenue in San Juan on Tuesday.

There are actually two versions. The first one is, Mico Palanca's car allegedly was hit by another vehicle. Mico allegedly went really mad and created a scene there.

And the other one is, it was Mico's car who allegedly hit another car. And when the police asked for his driver's license, he could not present one.

Mico allegedly argued with the police and even resisted arrest.

The second version is the one reported on ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda this morning.

Mico was charged with slander, malicious mischief, driving without license and resisting arrest.

No longer that active in showbiz, former Star Magic talent Mico Palanca was last seen acting on ABS-CBN's "Gimik 2010" and TV5's "Untold Stories Mula Sa Face To Face" late last year.

He is the younger brother of actor Bernard Palanca and was Bea Alonzo's boyfriend for more than 2 years. Mico and Bea broke up mid-2008.

Toni Gonzaga, Bea Alonzo or Ai-Ai delas Alas: Who will be crowned Box Office Queen for 2010?

Toni Gonzaga might get the Box Office Queen 2010 title for the film "My Amnesia Girl" opposite John Lloyd Cruz, who's also a possible Box Office King for 2010.

And that is if Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation (GMMSF), who gives out those titles, won't change its rules that only the movies' earnings until December 31 will be counted in determining the top-grossing film of the year.

According to the figures available at Box Office Mojo, "My Amnesia Girl" (MAG) was the top-grossing Pinoy film for 2010 with $3,288,330 or P144.81 million gross revenues.

In close 2nd is the John Lloyd-Bea Alonzo starrer "Miss You Like Crazy" (MYLC) with $3,183,529 or P142.97 million gross.

With that, it's no doubt that John Lloyd is 2010's Box Office King while Toni could be the Box Office Queen.

And since the earnings of the two above-mentioned films are very close, other tabulators might have different figures, and "Miss You Like Crazy" could possibly be the topgrosser. Its star Bea Alonzo might also be the Box Office Queen.

It will now all depend on what figures will be used by GMMSF.

How about the MMFF 2010 films?

Two of the MMFF 2010 entries, "Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na 'To)" and "Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote", have collected earnings that are much higher than MAG and MYLC from December 25, 2010 to January 7, 2011.

But unfortunately, when only the earnings until December 31 are considered, the two MMFF entries failed to surpass that of MAG and MYLC.

"Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na 'To" had P171 million gross receipts from Dec. 25 to Jan. 9 but counting until Dec. 31 only, it had an estimated gross of P109 million.

Same goes for "Si Agimat At Si Enteng Kabisote", which starred Bong Revilla and Vic Sotto. It had a high P159M gross revenues from Dec. 25 to Jan. 7, but only had P123M (estimated) from Dec. 25th to the 31st.

"Tanging Ina" lead star Ai-Ai delas Alas will for sure react again if ever she's not the 2010 Box Office Queen during the 2011 Box Office Entertainment Awards happening middle of this year.

In 2008, Ai-Ai was a bit disappointed that she was not crowned with the title. Sarah Geronimo was that year's Box Office Queen while Ai-Ai had to settle with Comedy Box Office Queen title (as a consolation).

And it seems like it's gonna happen again this year. Ai-Ai might just end up as Comedy Box Office Queen for 2010 as another consolation to her.

Here's how Pinoy films performed in the box-office for the year ended December 31, 2010:

    1. My Amnesia Girl P144,818,053
    2. Miss You Like Crazy P142,972,287
    3. Si Agimat At Si Enteng Kabisote P123M (estimated amount only)
    4. Here Comes the Bride P116,028,484
    5. Petrang Kabayo P115,494,375
    6. Ang Tanging Ina Mo Last Na 'To P109M (estimated amount only)
    7. You to Me Are Everything P98,560,645
    8. Babe, I Love You P96,185,439
    9. Paano Na Kaya P82,023,631
    10. Hating Kapatid P81,978,652
    11. Dalaw P66M (estimated amount only)
    12. In Your Eyes P62,775,365
    13. Cinco P60,755,512
    14. Till My Heartaches End P60,476,687
    15. Sa 'Yo Lamang P50,230,216
    16. I Do P42,441,264

    19. Working Girls P32,326,254
    20. White House P23,027,565

Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis, Bea Alonzo & KC Concepcion together in a photoshoot

Kapamilya leading ladies Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis, KC Concepcion and Bea Alonzo did a photoshoot together last Sunday, December 19, 2010.

The pictorial was for Mark Nicdao's upcoming photo exhibit and all 4 of them did slightly provocative poses.

    Take a look!

It's great to see Anne, Angel, Bea and KC together. It's actually their first time to be together for a pictorial, especially that they
are all endorsers of different shampoo brands.

Anne endorses L'Oreal, Angel for Head & Shoulders, KC is a Palmolive endorser and Bea is a model for Clear shampoo. (Sayang!) Kim Chiu,
who's endorsing Rejoice, should have been there too!

Photographer Mark Nicdao is the same person who took photos of Anne for Ginebra 2011 Calendar.

John Lloyd Cruz's group wins on ASAP XV's That's Christmas 2010 | Bea Alonzo now in good terms with Kim Chiu?

Three (3) groups of ASAP XV hosts and artists competed yesterday in "That's Christmas 2010" special of ABS-CBN's ASAP XV.

"That's Christmas" is an annual special by ASAP where the hosts and regular performers got to showcase their talents via a Christmas-themed presentation.

The televiewers were the ones who voted for the winners and they were the Group 2 composed of John Lloyd Cruz, Vina Morales, Gerald Anderson, Jericho Rosales, John Prats, Rayver Cruz, AJ Perez, Mickey Perz, Sitti Navarro, Gab Valenciano, Nel Gomez and Jed Madela, who did an amazing job.

And I totally agree with their choice. Group 2 was the most entertaining group. JL was so funny and I was surprised with Jed Madela, who was not himself that moment.

Watch a video of their presentation:

Also in that same episode where I got to catch Bea Alonzo hosting a prod and then she later introduced Kim Chiu and some other hosts to do the spiels for the next prod.

And then Kim responded to her by saying, "Thank you Bea!"

It's a good sign that the two are okay now after all the issues they had in the past.

On Twitter, fans are happy to know that they're now in good terms, at least as professional hosts of ASAP XV. @cristelmarie said, "great to see and hear that Bea and Kim are ok...Christmas is all about love and peace."

@Solid_Kimerald echoed that and said, "dapat everybody happy na! Spread love this Xmas!"

Also at the ABS-CBN Christmas 2010 Special, Kim and Bea performed together in one production number. They were both included in the prod for the "teleserye leading ladies" with Rico Blanco.

ABS-CBN Christmas 2010 Special: John Lloyd Cruz & Bea Alonzo back in each other's arms

John Lloyd Cruz is paired up once again with his perennial loveteam Bea Alonzo during the ABS-CBN 2010 Christmas Special held in Araneta on Tuesday evening, December 14th.

Angel Locsin, John Lloyd's current leading lady in "Imortal", was sick so she failed to attend the said event, but good thing Bea is always there for John Lloyd.

Bea and John Lloyd were among the 4 pairs in a number featuring the "teleserye loveteams". The other 3 pairs were Vhong Navarro and Toni Gonzaga (Kokey), Cristine Reyes and Zanjoe Marudo (Martha Cecilia's Kristine) and Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales (Green Rose).

Box Office: "Sa 'yo Lamang" grossed P22.18 million on its 1st week

Star Cinema's latest movie "Sa 'yo Lamang" grossed only P22.18 million for its first week (September 1 to 5).

That's way too low for a Star Cinema film!

The box office figure (courtesy of Box Office Mojo) is kinda unexpected because it's a star-studded film supposedly hoping to duplicate the success of Star Cinema's family drama in 2000, "Tanging Yaman", which was a huge hit.

It's also disappointing because "Sa 'yo Lamang" is topbilled by Bea Alonzo, who was a Box Office Queen in 2007 for "One More Chance" and possibly
this 2010 with "Miss You Like Crazy".

The P22.18M gross revenue is among the lowest opening week gross for a Filipino movie in 2010 and the 2nd lowest for Star Cinema, just behind "I'll Be There" which had P21.76 during its first week run.

But good thing though that the movie has been graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board and it's most likely to reap awards in the future.

Here's an update on the box office rankings of the Pinoy films shown in 2010:

    With above P100M gross:
    1. Miss You Like Crazy
    2. Here Comes the Bride
    3. You To Me Are Everything

P50M and above but below P100M:
    4. Babe, I Love You
    5. Paano Na Kaya
    6. Hating Kapatid
    7. In Your Eyes (as of Sep. 5)
    8. Cinco

P10M and above but below P50M:
    9. I'll Be There
    10. Working Girls
    11. Sa 'yo Lamang (as of Sep. 5)
    12. Mamarazzi (as of Sep. 5)

    Below P10M:
    13. Noy
    14. Emir

"Sa 'Yo Lamang" movie poster released | Bea Alonzo leads star-studded cast

From the same producer and director of the 2000 hit family drama
"Tanging Yaman", here comes another interesting family movie that will
    surely touch our hearts.

    Pero, interesting nga ba?

    Sa 'Yo Lamang movie

"Sa 'Yo Lamang" official movie poster has been released and a first look at it, the poster doesn't generate to me the desire to watch it.

It looks so plain and simple. There's nothing extra special about it. So maybe, it's just a light drama and not as heavy as "Tanging Yaman".

"Tanging Yaman" poster was better as it gave a hint that Gloria
Romerio, as the matriarch, plays the central character of the story based on how she appears on the poster.

It's not the case though for "Sa 'Yo Lamang" because there's no emphasis on anyone, except that Bea Alonzo's name is emphasized and slightly bigger than Lorna Tolentino and Christopher De Leon's.

Good thing though that they've included Coco Martin and Enchong Dee in
the cast. Both are crowd-drawers and "Sa 'Yo Lamang" marks Coco's first ever appearance in a mainstream movie.

Joining them are Zanjoe Marudo, Shaina Magdayao, Empress, Miles Ocampo and Diether Ocampo, with the special participation of Igi Boy Flores and Dominic Ochoa.

Interestingly, Shaina as a child star and Dominic in his early 20's were also part of "Tanging Yaman".

Produced by Star Cinema and directed by Laurice Guillen, "Sa 'Yo
Lamang" opens this September 1, 2010.
