The 6 official entries for the 33rd Metro Manila Film Festival on December 25, 2007 have already been announced yesterday.
Vic Sotto and Kristine Hermosa will be up again against Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo for the box-office title.
Senator Bong Revilla's Imus Productions is back after a year of absence in the Metro Manila Film Festival, while Mother Lily Monteverde scored again with two entries.
Director-rivals Joel Lamangan and Jose Javier Reyes will be fighting again for the Best Director.
Here are the 6 official MMFF '07 entries (first batch):
Bahay Kubo - MAQ Production, starring Maricel Soriano, Yasmien Kurdi, Mark Herras and Marian Rivera , to be directed by Joel Lamangan
Enteng Kabisote 4 - OctoArts, starring Vic Sotto & Kristine Hermosa, directed by Tony Y. Reyes
Katas ng Saudi - Maverick Films, starring Jinggoy Estrada and Lorna Tolentino directed by Jose Javier Reyes
Resiklo - Imus Productions, starring Bong Revilla, Jennylyn Mercado, directed by Mark Reyes
Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo - Star Cinema, starring Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo, directed by Jose Javier Reyes
Shake, Rattle and Roll 9 - Regal Films • 1ST Episode: Christmas Tree – John Prats & Nash Aguas directed by Paul Daza
• 2ND Episode: Bangungot – Dennis Trillo & Roxanne Guinoo directed by Mike Tuviera
• 3RD Episode: Engkanto – Katrina Halili, Melissa Ricks and Matt Evans directed by Topel Lee
The entries were very predictable. Even if you don't use the selection criteria by the festival committee, you could really guess during the submition process that those 6 will be part of the list.
Is there really a criteria being followed in selecting the entries? Why is it that sequels of previous MMFF entries always make it to the list? Is there such a little chance for new movies (which are not sequels) to be included?
I think, the best answer for that, is because those movies make more money, and the committee won't gamble to choose fresh movies and dare to sacrifice the "tried and tested" movie series.
Discarded screenplays:
Maverick Films; Reality/APT Entertainment – “Babang Luksa” starring Ogie Alcasid, Keempee de Leon, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Ara Mina, directed by Erik Matti
