Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the 2008 American Music Awards (AMA) was held Sunday night, November 23, 2008 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Some of the performers were Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Leona Lewis, Ne-Yo, Pink, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers with a few of them won awards.
It was the first time for Lewis and Coldplay to perform in the AMA.
One important highlight of the evening was when controversial rapper Kanye West won as Favorite Male Artist, and during his acceptance speech, he said he would give his award to fellow nominee Lil Wayne.
West already received the Favorite Hip Hop/Rap Album before the said newsworthy speech.
Chris Brown was the night's big winner after winning 3 awards, while Rihanna, just like West, took home 2 honors.
