Anne Curtis in MEGA's 17th Anniversary Special

For the fourth time, actress Anne Curtis Smith is gracing the cover of MEGA Magazine.

This February 2009, Anne Curtis will be the cover girl for the 17th anniversary special of MEGA Magazine.

The said issue is also a birthday treat for Anne who will be celebrating her 24th birthday on February 17.

MEGA Magazine admits that Anne is one of their favorite cover girls. The mag now tags Anne as an award-winning actress and a top endorser in the country.

Here's an excerpt from the MEGA's feature about Anne:

Seventeen years ago when MEGA first came out, Anne was only seven years old and living in Melbourne with her Australian dad James Curtis Smith and Filipina mom Carmencita Ojales. Little did she know that a trip to Jollibee while vacationing in Manila at age 13 would change the course of her life. The combination of her mixed racial features—full lips, slender nose, softly defined jaw line, perfectly arched eyebrows, scintillating almond-shaped eyes, luscious black locks and radiant skin—landed her her first acting role as Princessa Dahlia in the fantasy film Magic Kingdom.

Those same features, which only became more enhanced as she got older, put her on her first MEGA cover in March 2006, her second in April 2007 and then her third in September last year. “Super happy,” Anne answers when asked how she felt to be one of MEGA’s favorite cover girls. “I’m always excited whenever I get to do a cover because I get to put on different looks.” She recounts the last shoot: “Super hot! But it was fun. I got to stand inside helicopters and pose beside the first presidential plane. I even took a peek inside the cabin.”

Another highlight in her career unfolded last December 27, 2008 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel. Anne received the biggest surprise and first major recognition of her acting career—a Best Actress trophy from the MMFF!

“The feeling is unexplainable. I’m speechless… I can’t fathom the
happiness that I feel,” she said.

Box Office Faceoff: 'Love Me Again' vs 'One True Love'

Which movie performed better in the box office, Angel Locsin's Love Me Again or Marian Rivera's One True Love?

Love Me Again is still showing in theaters unlike One True Love thus we can only compare the two's 2-week earnings: (Note that Love Me Again had a 4-day opening week while One True Love had 5 days).

LOVE ME AGAIN (Land Down Under) starring Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual
    1st Week (4 days, January 15-18, 2009): P29,488,584
    2nd Week (7 days, January 19-25, 2009): P23,716,474
    2-WEEK TOTAL: P53,205,058

ONE TRUE LOVE starring Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes
    1st Week (5 days, November 19-23, 2008): P32,975,234
    2nd Week (7 days, November 24-30, 2008): P20,288,513
    2-WEEK TOTAL: P53,263,747

It seems like Love Me Again is performing better than One True Love.

But, is Love Me Again really a 'flop'?

Maybe yes or maybe not. Just consider the fact that it was shot in Australia and that means high production cost for the movie. A movie shot abroad should be earning higher than that.

And also, as compared to the last 10 movies made by Star Cinema (in a 2-week period), it's one of the lowest grossing films.

    1. ANG TANGING INA N'YONG LAHAT P171,000,000 (in 14 days)
    2. SAKAL, SAKALI, SAKLOLO P122,893,166 (in 14 days)
    3. A VERY SPECIAL LOVE P118,146,174 (in 12 days)
    4. CAREGIVER P111,316,897 (in 12 days)
    5. FOR THE FIRST TIME P107,865,797 (in 12 days)
    6. WHEN LOVE BEGINS... P69,144,594 (in 12 days)
    7. MY ONLY Ü P62,209,731 (in 12 days)
    8. LOVE ME AGAIN P53,205,058 (in 11 days)
    9. MY BIG LOVE P51,658,679 (in 12 days)
    10. SUPAHPAPALICIOUS P36,222,757 (in 9 days)

Love Me Again is also in danger of not surpassing the over-all earnings of Piolo Pascual's last movie as well as that of Angel Locsin.

PAANO KITA IIBIGIN starring Piolo Pascual and Regine Velasquez
    Total Earnings P78,128,341

THE PROMISE starring Angel Locsin and Richard Gutierrez
    Total Earnings P82,605,000

Carla Abellana is Richard Gutierrez's next leading lady?

With the report that celebrity daughter and model Carla Abellana has auditioned as Richard Gutierrez's leading lady in GMA 7's TV adaptation of Zorro, there are loud speculations that Carla will get the coveted role.

And that is if GMA 7 can afford to have someone who resembles their hottest female star Marian Rivera.

Upon seeing Carla Abellana being interviewed on ABS-CBN's TV Patrol World last Friday, isyuseros in the showbizlandia were quick to compare Carla and Marian.

Both have the prettiest faces, deep set eyes, lovely smile and sexy pair of dimples.

Carla and Marian are both graduates of Pyschology at the De La Salle University (DLSU). Carla though received Cum Laude honors for her course at DLSU-Taft while Marian took it at DLSU-Dasma.

Carla, who is the daughter of former matinee idol Rey 'PJ' Abellana, has just signed a 12-picture contract with Regal Films and there's a possibility that Marian and Carla will star in one movie together since Marian is also a contract star of the said film outfit.

ABS-CBN probably should get Carla in their pool of talents so they could have an almost perfect match for Marian Rivera.

As a commercial model, Carla Abellana appeared in the Jollibee Ice Craze ad and is currently dating PBA basketeer John Christopher 'JC' Intal.

Latest Update about Richard Gutierrez's leading lady in Zorro: The coveted role has just been given to Rhian Ramos and that means Zorro will be Richard and Rhian's 4th team-up.

They were paired in the hit TV series such as Captain Barbell (2006), Lupin (2007) and Codename: Asero (2008). In movie, they were together in The Promise (2007).

With this new development, Carla failed to bag the role, but surprisingly, she has landed the lead role in the Filipino adaptation of 'Rosalinda' still on GMA 7.

Michael Phelps caught smoking a 'bong'

British tabloid News of the World has an exclusive report about Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps being caught smoking a bong, a drug paraphernalia or a device used to smoke a substance.

And that substance was believed to be a cannabis, a psychoactive drug.

News of the World also has an exclusive photo to support the article, where Phelps was pictured puffing from the bong.

According to the article, the smoking incident happened last November, 2008 during a house party, the time when athletes like Phelps were not expected to get drug tests.

One witness shared that Phelps was out of control the moment he got there.

“You could tell Michael had smoked before. He grabbed the bong and a lighter and knew exactly what to do. He looked just as natural with a bong in his hands as he does swimming in the pool. He was the gold medal winner of bong hits. Michael ended up getting a little paranoid, though, because before too long he looked like he was nervous and ran out of the place,” the source said.

News of the World also claims that Michael Phelps' camp tried to

Looking at the photo, it's hard to figure out if it's really Phelps.

And if it's true, that's so disappointing and it could ruin his wonderful swimming career.

Phelps, who now has 14 Olympic gold medals, is set to compete once more in the 2012 London Olympics.

    ***

As of latest news, Phelps has already apologized regarding his 'bong hit' photo:

"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again," he said.

Manuel Chua is a 'snake' man

Just like RJ Calipus, Manuel Chua Jr was a "snake" man, (but not in a no-gar brief) in his sexy black undies, during one terrifying but exciting stunt of Pinoy Fear Factor.

Large snakes were crawling on Manuel's body, only to realize that Manuel also has a "snake" underneath.

But unlike RJ, Manuel had a little inhibition and not yet ready to flaunt his greatest asset.

Look at the snake...it's very much comfortable lying on top of another 'snake'. (Naughty snake!)

    Watch Manuel doing his stunt...

    ***

There are rumors that the Top 3 Participantes of Pinoy Fear Factor include Manuel, Jommy Teotico and Marion dela Cruz. It's something we should find out as Pinoy Fear Factor comes to an end this February.

RJ Calipus strips to his 'nogar' undies

Kargador hunk from Tondo Bernabe 'RJ' Calipus, Jr. had no choice but to show off his no-gar/bacon (no garter, worn-out) brief during the 2nd stunt for the Séptima Ronda de Eliminación (Round 7 Elimination) of Pinoy Fear Factor Argentina, South America.

The said stunt was shown last Tuesday, January 27, 2009 wherein RJ had to lay down inside the Caja del Terror (Box of Terror) full of rats, snakes and frogs wearing only his undies.

Unfortunately, RJ was wearing a no-gar brief and had to do the stunt only to suffer from the malicious laugh of the naughty ladies, Savanah Lamsen and Janna Dominguez. Even host Ryan Agoncillo was laughing at it.

In the end, RJ's no-gar undies did not do any wonders to him and turned out to be "unlucky" as he finished the stunt in the bottom two.

On a positive note, RJ was a revelation in the said stunt. Born to a Filipina mom and French dad, RJ truly has "something" to be proud of. What a sight!

Too bad, RJ's undies, crotch and bulge were blurred on its airing, but not on its teaser. It's so unfair. When ladies in two-piece bikini were doing some stunts with legs wide open, they don't blur it. Why? and Why?

Watch the said episode... (uploaded on Youtube by Dave a.k.a. uploadbee)

You've Got Male: FOUR...The First Time

    Press Release

Four men with four distinct voices… blending as one. YOU’VE GOT MALE!

All products of popular singing competitions, Gian Magdangal, Jan Nieto, Bryan Termulo and Harry Santos comprise the all male group “You’ve Got Male”. The quartet is a brainchild of the top thinkers of GMA 7’s top-rating noontime show, SOP as part of the segment called “Three Of A Kind”. The good reviews they have been getting is what is driving them to push their talents a little more, yet maintaining their flourishing solo careers.

Gian Magdangal and Jan Nieto ended up on equal footing as runners-up in “Philippine Idol” back in 2006. Quite interesting to note is that during the competition, they were being touted as rivals because of their opposite musical styles and backgrounds – Gian, the La Sallite was part of the group 17:28 and had a background in musical theater, while Jan, The Atenean, was a corporate geek who didn’t have any background nor training in music. Their talent didn’t go unnoticed by GMA management as they eventually joined SOP.

On the other hand, Harry Santos and Bryan Termulo trace their roots to another competition, GMA’s “Pinoy Pop Superstar”. Harry was only 16 when he tried his luck in the competition’s 2nd season, landing a spot in the Top 4. Bryan took his turn during the 3rd Season, and after a tough climb, he made it to the Top 2 and scored the runner up position during that season. They too began performing on SOP soon after their respective competitions finished.

Their unique individual styles and blend of voices is what they will showcase as they mount their first major concert aptly titled “FOUR… The First Time”. Lending their support as special guests in the concert are singer-actress Lovi Poe and Concert Queen, Ms. Pops Fernandez.

Expect a repertoire that will showcase their individual tastes in music from pop ballads to acoustic and light rock classics. They too will pay tribute to the great singer-songwriters Barry Manilow and Ogie Alcasid, as well as the enduring OPM staples of the 80’s. Of course, not to be missed will be the songs that will show off their winning voices that brought them to where they are now.

“FOUR… The First Time” will be on February 20, 2009 at the Music Museum, Showtime is at 8PM. Produced by Dream Concert Asia Entertainment Production, in cooperation with GMA 7. Tickets are available at Music Museum (721-0635) and Ticketworld (891-9999)

Tattooed hunks Manuel Chua and Jubail Andres

Pinoy Fear Factor's Manuel Chua Jr and Star Magic Batch 16 member Jubail Andres are a lot sexier with the tattoos embedded on their bodies.

I generally don't like guys with tattoos in their bodies except for a few including Manuel and Jubail (plus Jace Flores of Survivor Philippines).

Stunt Master Manuel is the very reason why I stay up late at night watching Pinoy Fear Factor. Every stunt in the said reality show becomes so much sexier if Manuel is doing it.

Those tattoos, especially the one near his navel, are sooo hot for me. Does he has another tattoo underneath?

As for Jubail, at first glance, you wouldn't see any traces of those tattoo stains.

He actually has tattoo at his back: three stars and a sun.

And another one underneath his pants. It's an alibata and something cannot be seen if he has his undies on. Too bad, but on one side, that makes him a lot hotter.

Jubail was last seen in the "Boarding House" episode of Maaalala Mo Kaya last Saturday as one of the boardmates.

The said episode starred Coco Martin (in a gay role), Derek Ramsay (a man molested in his teener years by his father), Emilio Garcia as the bisexual father and another Star Magic Batch 16 member Reb Sibal.

I hope I could see more of Jubail (and his hidden tattoo probably).

81st Academy Awards Nominations (Oscars 2009)

Hollywood's power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie received their second Academy Award nominations in history during the announcement of the nominations for the 81st Annual Academy Awards on January 22, 2009.

After 13 years, Brad Pitt is nominated once more for an Oscar award via his film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. He was previously nominated as Best Supporting Actor for the movie 12 Monkeys in 1995.

Meryl Streep has maintained her record for being the most nominated Hollywood actress. Her 2009 nomination is already her 15th.

Sean Penn meanwhile has his 5th nomination and Kate Winslet gets her 6th nod in just a span of 13 years.

Brent Keith Smith, American Idol Season 8 hopeful

Brent Keith Smith, 28 from Ohio, is one of the possible Top 50 (or even Top 12) contestants of American Idol Season 8.

For his American Idol audition (shown last January 21, 2009), Brent Keith sang "Can't Get Enough of Your Love".

This blonde-type good-looking country singer already has an impressive portfolio under his name.

Brent Keith was a finalist (6th place) on Nashville Star Season 2, an American Idol-like reality show shown on the USA Network.

"I'm a modern-day country boy with influences from all over, but my music is probably best described as a blend of classic and current country and rock-n-roll. There's nothing I enjoy more than writing and performing my music live in front of a crowd, and I'm looking forward to the possibility of finally having the chance to show the world who I am and what I do," quoted from Brent Keith in his 'Nashville Star' profile.

In 2007, Brent Keith sang 'Looking For a Road', the theme song of the feature film 'Dale'.

Sounds interesting. Will it help him or will it go against his American Idol journey?

Brent Keith is already married to a grade school teacher.

'Tayong Dalawa' pilot episode marks 30.8% ratings

Finally, after almost two years, ABS-CBN has gained a 30-plus Mega Manila pilot ratings for a teleserye via 'Tayong Dalawa', which had its successful debut last Monday, January 19, 2008.

'Tayong Dalawa' registered an impressive 30.8% ratings for its pilot episode, good enough to beat GMA 7's Gagambino in the same timeslot.

The said new teleserye stars the unbeatable tandem of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson plus the fast-rising star Jake Cuenca.

It can be recalled that Kim, Gerald and Jake were also the lead stars of 'Sana Maulit Muli' which had 31.5% ratings during its debut and consistently gave 30-plus ratings during the first quarter of 2007.

In 2008, ABS-CBN failed to get a 30-plus pilot ratings for any of its TV series and the last time it reached that mark was in September, 2007 when Lastikman's first episode posted 30.3% ratings in Mega Manila.

The scenario gets even better for 'Tayong Dalawa' for its 2nd and 3rd day. It consistently topple down 'Gagambino' in the ratings game:

    January 20, 2009 (Tuesday)
Gagambino 31.2% vs. Tayong Dalawa 32.6%

    January 21, 2009 (Wednesday)
Gagambino 25.5% vs. Tayong Dalawa 28.3%

Is this sign for ABS-CBN pulling back the numbers from GMA?

Meanwhile, in the Nationwide Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) ratings for December 2008 also released by AGB Nielsen, ABS-CBN still leads the ranking, but GMA shows are posing big threats.
