Beijing Olympics wraps up with China as champion; USA breaks own Olympic record


    Wrestler Andrea Minguzzi of Italy has contributed one gold medal to his country in the 2008 Summer Olympics.



    The 29th Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, which started on August 08, 2008, has ended last night, August 24, 2008, with the host country on top of the medals chart, hauling in a total of 51 gold medals, 15 medals more than last Olympics' champion USA.

    However, it was USA who garnered the highest number of medals won, a total of 110 medals, 10 more than the eventual champion.

    USA fell short of gold medals, but it had the most silver and bronze medals won this season.

    The number has also added a new record for USA its highest number of medals won in Olympic history.

    204 countries participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics but only 87, which is 42.65%, have won atleast a single medal.

    Countries with 15 and more athletes sent in the competition but won no medal include Angola, Bahrain, Côte d'Ivoire, Cyprus, FS Micronesia, Honduras, Hong Kong, Mali, Montenegro, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uganda and the Philippines.

    The 2012 Summer Olympics will be held in London, England.
