He is also believed to be the next Piolo Pascual, after his incidental successful pairing with Judy Ann Santos in the TV series Ysabella.
For sure, Alfie Lorenzo would make a comment again that Judy Ann has made another star, in the person of Derek. To quote from his column in Abante-Tonite last August 31, "Ngayong nagkapangalan na si Derek Ramsay gawa ng pagkakatambal kay Juday, hayan at ilalayo na siya para makasama ng mga magbu-book 2 sa Maging Sino Ka Man...Hay naku, at least may napasikat na naman si Juday. Debah, si TJ Trinidad ay doon na sa wanted leading man ipinasa?"
Philippine Entertainment Portal is quick to ask Derek Ramsay about him being the next Piolo Pascual or Sam Milby.
Derek said, "Si Sam, nandito na ‘yon. Marami na siyang nagawa kesa sa akin, marami na siyang nagawang movies na kumita, hit ang soap niya. I think he's an exemption. Accepted siya ng mga tao, mayroon siyang hila. Hindi ko puwedeng i-compare ang sarili ko kay Sam, wala pa 'ko dun."
And on Piolo: "Piolo Pascual is Piolo Pascual, ma-compare lang ako sa kanya is something already. Maganda yung feeling, excited, pero ayokong i-rush....I wanna make sure one step at a time na gagawin ko ito para one day, even half of the level of Piolo, makarating ako. Okay na ako doon. Hindi ko plinano ito, but I'm very happy that it's turning out like this."
Derek Ramsay will be seen in the upcoming movies Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo with Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo, Ready to Take a Chance Again with John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, and 12th of August with still unknown cast.
After Ysabella, he'll next be seen in a teleserye entitled The Wedding with Anne Curtis and Zanjoe Marudo.
