Earthquake in the Philippines, March 21, 2011: Earthquake of 5.7 magnitude felt today in Manila

    A 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit Mindoro, Philippines today, March 21, 2011, just less than an hour after a 5.8 quake was experienced in Afghanistan, according to the latest earthquake report from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

    Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Renato Solidum confirmed that on TV Patrol earlier and according to him, it was a 5.7 magnitude earthquake that happened at 6:37 PM, with epicenter 12-km. northeast of Lubang Island in Mindoro.

    He also said that the quake was caused by the movement of the Manila Trench in the South China Sea.

    Talisay City, Batangas
    Tagaytay City
    Marikina City
    City of Manila

    Intensity 3:
    San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
    Lubang Island
    Calapan, Oriental Mindoro
    Quezon City
    Makati City
    Malabon City
    Taguig City
    Alabang, Muntinlupa
    Bacoor, Cavite
    Abra De Ilog

    Intensity 2:
    Plaridel, Bulacan
    Baguio City
    Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija
    Lucban, Quezon

    No damages were reported.

    This is already the 3rd consecutive day that an earthquake with at least 4.5 magnitude was felt in the Philippines.

    According to PHIVOLCS report, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake was felt in Davao Oriental last March 19 and a 6.1 magnitude quake hit Laoag City on March 20.

According to PHIVOLCS, it was a 4.7 magnitude earthquake at 9:29PM with epicenter at Pili, Camarines Sur. Intensity 4 was reported for Naga City and Pili, CamSur.]
