3rd Asian Film Awards (2009) winners

The Philippines' Serbis (English title: Service), which stars Coco Martin (photo), was up for three awards in two categories in the 3rd Annual Asian Film Awards and it luckily won one of them during the awarding ceremonies held Monday, March 23, 2009, in Hong Kong.

Gina PareƱo was hailed Best Supporting Actress for the movie beating fellow Filipina Jacly Jose and three other contenders coming from Japan and South Korea.

Already a multi-awarded actress locally, this is already Gina's 6th international acting award.

She was previously honored as Best Actress (for Kubrador) in the Osian's Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema in India, also in the Amiens International Film Festival in France as well as in the 33rd Brussels International Independent Film Festival in Belgium and another one for Serbis in the Pacific Meridian International Film Festival of Asian-Pacific Countries held in Russia.

Gina's "Rehas" episode in Maalaala Mo Kaya also gave her a Best Actress trophy during the 12th Asian Television Awards.

Serbis, which has been tagged as the local version of Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, was also nominated as Asian Film Awards' Best Film but lost to Japan's Tokyo Sonata.
