Team Philippines or the Azkals now has a very strong chance of entering the
semi-finals of ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 2010 after beating Team Vietnam, 2-0, Sunday night in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The Philippines beating the tournament's defending champion, with 2 goals against 0, was highly unexpected and is considered the biggest shock in the history of AFF.
Thanks to Filipino players Chris Greatwich and Phil
Younghusband for scoring the two goals. Greatwich is also now among the Top 9 Scorers in the tournament, as of Sunday.
The victory of the Philippines against Vietnam as well as the draw between PH and Singapore prior to that makes Philippines as the
leading team in Group B of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010, followed by Singapore, then Vietnam and Myanmar.
Group A meanwhile has Indonesia on top so far, next is Thailand, then Malaysia and Laos.
One more game for the Philippines and it's going to be with Myanmar this coming Wednesday, December 8.
If Philippines wins again or ends up in a draw, the team will advance to the semis, a first for the country in AFF.
But if it loses to Myanmar, Philippines will only have a chance to move to the semis if Singapore beats Vietnam in their match, also happening on Wednesday. If the game between Singapore and Vietnam end up on a draw, still the Philippines won't earn a semifinal slot.
They really have to beat Myanmar to make it sure.
Goodluck Team Philippines!
